…Where is Dev Log? Is it safe..? Is it alright..?
Yep! It is. I just took a break, had a lack of motivation for a couple of days.
Today I worked on a couple things. I bought a MIDI keyboard finally, so I can really get started on learning how to make digital music. I have messed around with a few DAWs, but I am really ready to sink my teeth into that aspect of the game once that MIDI arrives.
I also did some more Class building. While I was doing this, I thought of another gameplay mechanic, currently called Light and Darkness. It needs a better name. It really does, something cool and flashy! Hopefully I wake up at 3 AM and think of it.
A big part of the Light and Darkness is a per battle resource that is increased, decreased, and used to manipulate character abilities and stats. This Light and Darkness will be set randomly (or purposefully in boss fights hehe), and the more Darkness there is, the higher crit rate all forces (what I’m going to be calling any unit or monster or character in battles) have, but they take Will damage at the start of each turn. If there is more Light, all forces get lowered crit rate but heal Will Points at the start of each of their turns.
This mechanic definitely needs to be fleshed out, but I am SO excited. It seems like a very cool way to have actively managed per battle resources that can help or hurt your characters.
There will be a special ability called Convergence, where if the Light and Darkness levels are equaled out on a force’s turn, it will get to use a special ability. I will probably make unique abilities for the main characters, and then static abilities for monsters if I want them to use the Convergence or just try to get rid of it.
Another thing I started was a C# course. It’s going to be the main language I’m using, so far that’s been going good. I have a background in Python from some college courses, but those were only introductory and I did not try very hard. The background has helped, most of the Intro lessons I’ve done for C# have made a lot of sense because of my limited experience.
I’m excited about a lot right now! Making music, and also proof of concepting some of the gameplay as I learn how to code will be huge steps!
I plan on releasing another Character Intro this weekend, as well as a Class Description for 1 or 2 classes. Check them out once they release!
